What do company, director and asset searches show?

Company, director and asset searches establish what a person or business legally owns or controls — company officeholdings, property titles, bankruptcy status and registered interests — before you commit to litigation or recovery action.

The commercial question behind almost every one of these searches is the same: if we win, is there anything to recover? A judgment against a person with no assets and no income is an expensive piece of paper. Establishing the position first is what makes the decision to proceed a commercial one rather than a hopeful one.

Results are typically returned within 24 hours.

Who we do this for

Law firms

Pre-litigation asset position, correct entity identification, and registered office confirmation for service.

Debt collection agencies

Establishing recoverability before escalating a file to legal action.

Insolvency practitioners

Directorship history, related entities and asset position in administration and liquidation matters.

Lenders and credit teams

Verifying who stands behind an applicant entity and what security may be available.

Businesses

Due diligence on a prospective customer, supplier or partner before extending credit or signing.

Private clients

Establishing the position of an estate, a former partner, or a party to a dispute.

How it works

  1. 1

    Scope the search

We confirm what you actually need to establish — ownership, recoverability, entity identification, or all three — so you are not paying for searches that will not answer the question.

  2. 2

    Entity and identity resolution

The correct company or individual is identified and distinguished from similarly named entities and namesakes.

  3. 3

    Search

Company and directorship records, property titles, bankruptcy and insolvency registers and registered interests are searched as scoped.

  4. 4

    Analysis

Findings are read together — related entities, recent transfers and directorship changes often matter more than any single record.

  5. 5

    Reporting

You receive the search results with a plain summary of what they establish, usually within 24 hours.

Why it matters

A pile of search results is not an answer

Anyone can order a company extract. The value is in reading the results together — noticing that a property transferred to a spouse three months before default, that a director resigned the week proceedings were foreshadowed, or that the trading entity is not the entity holding the assets.

We report what the searches establish, not just what they returned. If the honest answer is that there is nothing worth pursuing, that is what you will be told — before you spend on enforcement.

What you receive

  • Company and directorship search results
  • Current and historical officeholder details
  • Property and title search results where instructed
  • Bankruptcy and insolvency status
  • Registered interests and encumbrances where searched
  • A plain-language summary of what the findings establish

What these searches cannot tell you

Registered records show registered positions. Assets held informally, through third parties, or offshore may not appear. An absence of recorded assets is not proof that none exist — it is evidence that none are recorded.

Where the position looks deliberately structured to obscure ownership, we will say so and advise what further investigation would be required, rather than presenting an incomplete picture as a conclusion.

Lawful and compliant

All work is conducted in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and under the regulations applying to licensed inquiry agents in each state. We collect only information necessary for the engagement, use it only for that purpose, and hold all documentation securely.

For professional clients this matters commercially as well as ethically — engaging an unlicensed or non-compliant provider transfers risk onto your firm. Read how we operate lawfully →

Bankruptcy, Title, Company & Asset Searches — frequently asked questions

How fast are company and asset searches returned?

Typically within 24 hours of instruction. Complex multi-entity or multi-jurisdiction searches may take longer, and we will tell you upfront if that applies.

How much do company and asset searches cost?

Company, director and asset searches start from $150, quoted on the scope of what needs to be established. Search disbursements are included in the quoted fee.

Can you search property owned by an individual?

Yes. Property and title searches can be conducted against an individual or an entity, subject to the requirements of the relevant state land registry.

Can you tell me if someone is bankrupt?

Yes. Bankruptcy and insolvency status can be established against an individual, and external administration status against a company.

Can you find assets before I start legal action?

That is the most common reason for these searches. Establishing the asset position first tells you whether litigation is commercially worth starting.

What if the company has changed its name or deregistered?

Historical records are searchable. Former names, previous officeholders, deregistration and related entities can all be established.

Do you search across all states?

Yes. Company and bankruptcy records are national. Property and title searches are conducted through the relevant state or territory registry.

Can you confirm a registered office for service?

Yes, and this is a common pairing with process serving — confirming the correct registered address before documents are served avoids a failed attempt.
