How do you find someone in Australia?
Locating a person means confirming where someone currently lives or can be contacted, using lawful information sources. Common reasons include reconnecting with family, serving legal documents, administering an estate, or resolving a financial matter.
Most people are findable. Even those who have moved repeatedly leave a trail across registries, property records, employment, utilities and public sources. The work is in assembling that trail, discarding what is stale or belongs to someone else, and confirming what remains.
We do this discreetly. A location search does not involve contacting the person, approaching their family, or alerting them that someone is looking — unless you specifically instruct us to make contact.
Who we do this for
Reconnecting with family
Locating a parent, sibling, child or relative where contact has been lost over time.
Estate and probate matters
Finding beneficiaries and next of kin so an estate can be properly administered.
Legal proceedings
Locating a party, witness or respondent so documents can be served and matters can proceed.
Money owed to you
Finding someone who has moved without settling a personal loan or private debt.
Former partners and co-parents
Establishing a current address in connection with family law or child support matters.
Old friends and colleagues
Reconnecting where someone has moved, changed name, or simply dropped out of contact.
How it works
- 1
Tell us what you know
We take the details you have — even partial ones — and tell you honestly whether there is enough to work with before you spend anything.
- 2
Confirm the purpose
We confirm the reason for the search is lawful and appropriate. This protects you as much as it protects the person being located.
- 3
Search
Licensed investigators search registries, public records, property and employment data and open sources, building a picture of recent movement.
- 4
Verify
Candidate matches are cross-checked so the person we confirm is genuinely the person you are looking for — not a namesake.
- 5
Report
You receive the confirmed address and available contact details, with the search record behind them.
Why it matters
People-search websites are not a location service
Online people-finder sites resell aggregated data. They return whatever is in the file, with no one checking whether it is current, whether it is the right person, or whether the record is a decade old. You pay, you get a result, and you have no way of knowing if it is true.
A licensed investigator confirms the answer before giving it to you. That distinction matters most in exactly the situations people search for someone — a first contact after many years, or a legal step that only gets one attempt.

What we will not do
We do not accept instructions where the purpose appears to be harassment, intimidation, or contact with someone protected by a court order. Where an intervention order or family violence order may be in place, we will decline the matter.
We also cannot always succeed — a person may have left Australia, be deceased, or have no recent recorded presence. Where that happens we tell you, and provide the record of what was searched.
Lawful and compliant
All work is conducted in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and under the regulations applying to licensed inquiry agents in each state. We collect only information necessary for the engagement, use it only for that purpose, and hold all documentation securely.
For professional clients this matters commercially as well as ethically — engaging an unlicensed or non-compliant provider transfers risk onto your firm. Read how we operate lawfully →

Locate a Person — frequently asked questions
Can I legally find someone in Australia?
Yes, where the purpose is legitimate — reconnecting with family, administering an estate, serving legal documents, or resolving a financial matter. Licensed investigators conduct these searches in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. We confirm the purpose before starting.
How much does it cost to find someone?
Locating a person starts from $100, quoted as a fixed fee once we understand the matter. Across the wider Australian market comparable searches commonly run $350–$500.
How long does it take to locate someone?
Most searches are completed within 7–10 business days. Where someone has moved frequently or deliberately avoided leaving a trail, it can take longer.
Will the person know I am looking for them?
No. A location search is conducted discreetly and does not involve contacting the person or their family. We only make contact if you specifically instruct us to.
What if I only have a name?
A name alone is workable if it is uncommon, and difficult if it is not. A date of birth, an approximate age, a last known suburb, or the name of a relative dramatically improves the result. Tell us what you have and we will assess it before you commit.
Can you find someone who has changed their name?
Often, yes. Name changes are recorded, and people retain other identifiers — date of birth, family connections, property and employment history — that survive a change of name.
Can you find someone who has moved overseas?
We can frequently confirm that a person has departed Australia, which is itself an answer. Locating them within another country is outside the scope of an Australian trace and we will tell you when that point is reached.
Is my enquiry confidential?
Yes. Your identity and the fact of the enquiry are not disclosed to the person being located, and all documentation is held securely.
